It is impossible to overstate the importance of small business on our economic growth. According to the Small Business Administration, over 97% of the businesses in Tennessee employ fewer than 500 employees.

Small business is the greatest engine for job growth in our state. We must not only encourage new small business efforts. We must protect existing ones. Currently, all legislation that we consider in Nashville has a "fiscal note." The fiscal note puts a price tag on what that bill will cost the state budget. House Republicans believe we should have a similar statement for proposed legislation’s effect on small business.

These small-business impact statements will help limit the burdensome rules and regulations that government sometimes mandates for small-business.
