Tort Reform

Liability insurance costs are also escalating. These costs can be attributed, at least in part, to the need for tort reform. We learned from this year’s Medical Malpractice Study Committee is that we have not done a good enough job of staying on top of this issue.

To be sure, we do not want to find ourselves in the position that California is in. A pro-trial lawyer business environment has driven existing companies across state lines.

We’ve been told that we do not know if there’s a tort problem in Tennessee. But we do not want to find out in a couple of years that there is one. We will address this problem before businesses start packing up and moving out of state, leaving Tennesseans without jobs and with little prospect of finding another one.
