Over the past 4 years, Tennessee's Department of Transportation has paid out $207 million in cost overruns on some of their contracts from 1998-2002, some overruns greater than 200%.  House Republicans propose to rein in spending on government contracts. 

Our plan would require that any state contract that exceeds its original bid by 10% or more must be reviewed by the General Assembly’s Joint Fiscal Review Committee.  This will bring these cost overruns to public attention before they get out of control.
